THE ART OF LEAVING
Everywhere you see people trying to live a healthy and fulfilling
lifestyle. In this pursuit they try to adapt to “the art of living”. But to
live a healthy lifestyle you have to be hale and hearty.
While we try and follow a very healthy lifestyle by doing
aerobics, yoga and regularly visit the nearby gym. What we actually sometimes
give a miss is to the fact that more than the art of living, we need to learn
“The art of leaving”. Because when it comes to eating we want to pretend that
we are conscious about our eating habits, but we then in that consciousness we end
up eating more unknowingly.
So why do we do this? Our mind is the strongest politician,
who plays a very important role in this. He clearly persuades us in indulging,
while giving us some strong reason to justify.
Like how we would overeat during the first half of the day. Mind – It’s
always good to have the heavier meals in the beginning of the day. And it turns
out to be your best bet if your favourite dish has been prepared at home for
breakfast or at 11 am your colleague opens a box filled with idlis made by
his/her mom. But the problem starts when you all of sudden are invited for an
official lunch the same day or in the evening guests turn up at home. You can
imagine what you would do if you have a buffet to attend or the best of dishes laid
in front of you at home as soon as you enter with that worn out look.
Or the best
is when you pretend to follow a routine of having small meals throughout the
day.
If you are
in office it becomes a grand affair as everyone contributes to the ritual in
regular intervals and that small meal turns out to be a grand affair. And if it
is a weekend then the duration of the interval gradually reduces drastically as
the day passes by.
Therefore what we actually should follow is “The Art of
Leaving”. It is very simple to follow and you may have chances to be blessed by
god for doing some good deeds. Get into the habit of not filling your plates or
see your stomach as a platter which you need to fill. The key word which should
also be acted upon is “Leave”.
All you need to do is firstly not fill up your
plates while taking food and just take small portions of fillings or don’t grab
that entire burger and sandwich, try and start with half of it. Secondly when
you start drooling by just staring at the food, just gulp down a glass of water
and then only start eating and that too slowly because it takes time for our
stomach to tell our mind that it’s full. And mostly by the time the messenger
reaches up, we have overeaten. And last not the least while you break your
meals do not hide and eat but share your food with others, this way you eat the
appropriate amount and you get some bonus points from the keeper (god) for
feeding others.
